The Robber

Living life in the moment is a goal we are told to strive the reach. However, when things happen that are out of your control you look back and realized how naive you had been. To my recollection my story starts off on a sunny Superbowl Sunday. My whole family was looking forward to going to our friends house to watch the Superbowl and eat dinner. It was basically an excuse for everyone to spend quality time together while bonding over sports. As soon as we got there I had a weird gut feeling which quickly went away when the game began. It was eventually the fourth quarter and coming down to the last few minutes and our team was in the lead by a long shot. We celebrated our win when the game was over and started packing up to head back home. We said our goodbyes and were ready to head home. Once we arrived at our house we knew something wasn’t right.

To our horror we had realized someone had broken in. Fear begun to settle in as we walked through our halls to see if the perpetrator was still in the house. We quickly called 911 and assessed the damage. After clearing the whole house we could relax and realized how shaken up we all were. All of our valuables and electronics were missing. It was shocking that the robber had found every single one of our valuable items even though most of them were well hidden. We were all saddened that our fun family trip had turned into a mistake and we all regretting being away when the robber broke in. We couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if we were there. Would it have made a difference? Or would they have been armed? At least we all are okay.

Swiftly after calling 911, the police department arrived and assessed the damage for themselves. The head of the operation, Sargent Jerry, ordered every possible entrance to be searched and for every room to be looked at for any possible clues as to what happened that day. To our surprise, when all of the officers recollected with Jerry, they came up with a terrifying conclusion. Jerry returned to us and started to explain what they had found. “Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, after our thorough investigation, we have found some striking evidence. The shoe prints we found all matched those of Mr. Thompson, while on all entrances, being doors and windows, the fingerprinting matched that of you, Mrs Thompson. Until we can find further evidence, We have nothing left to do here. I’m sorry about the break-in but we have no leads and no DNA or evidence to start pursuing with.” This brought a new horror to the break-in. How did the robber enter our house without leaving a single footprint or mark, let alone steal and then exit again without touching anything?

A few weeks goes by and we have another break in at the same location and we still have no signs of DNA or signs of footprints that can lead to this slick criminal so I had said to myself I have to find out who this criminal really is. So I told the family that i’d be on watch for the next couple weeks to see if anything happens…. The first week goes by and I see nothing happen, but I did see someone wearing a bright yellow hood come by and drop off mail and that was very suspicious because this person had no mail truck or anything so I was kind scared about what was in the mail but didn’t really follow up on it…. Second week goes by and I have witness this man walk by back and forth with a crowbar in his hand around the house around 3 to 4 in the morning but then the man had left so i didn’t see anything happen after the final night I was watching the house so I told the family nothing was happening so I told them I’d send them an officer every so often just to check on them to see if they are alright and if any more signs of break ins.

A few nights later. I was on the lookout outside of the house after dawn and realized someone with a mask was going around the side trying to enter from a window. I swiftly got out from my hiding place and started following making sure not to be seen. I followed the perpetrator and watched from a distance what he was doing inside. The built of the body said that it was a male. He was walking around and then it hit me why there was no fingerprints or footprints found. He was wearing gloves and shoe covers. I called backup and they arrived very quickly. We surrounded the house and knocked on the door saying it was the police. He looked for a place to escape realizing he was surrounded. He gave up and put his hands behind his back ready to be arrested and a police man came and put handcuffs on him. The mask was taken off and the perpetrator was revealed. It was the leader of the biggest robbery chain in Southern California and he was being out away in jail for good.
